Macy’s Promotional Ad

leave a comment »

This is one of my favorite advertisements that usually appears around the holidays. It is an institutional ad for Macy’s that showcases the 150 years of retail success through movies and familiar celebrity faces.

And similarly, one of my favorite Holiday movies is also somewhat of a promotional advertisement for Macy’s. Miracle on 34th Street, although featuring a store called Cole’s, is roughly based on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The movie is shown every Thanksgiving evening on various channels as sort of a kick-off of the holiday movie season on television. The newer movie is a re-make of the origional one from 1947, created by a former employee of Macy’s department store in NYC. In fact, Macy’s donated a lot of money to the films  production team  and it is suggested that they had some imput when it came to the logo for “Cole’s” department store. Its the same star shape that Macy’s uses, and has used since 1945. Take that for product placement!
