Bud Light Fan Cans

Discussions of advertizing in the media and target audiences reminded me of the Anheuser-Busch marketing campaign that featured Bud Light beer cans with local schools’ team colors. Opponents to the Bud Light campaign, which involves 26 different color combinations, argued that the campaign targets underage drinkers. Although the cans do not bear any school name or logo college administrators were concerned that the marketing campaign may, “contribute to underage and binge drinking and give the impression that the colleges are endorsing the brew.” The leading slogan for the Bud Light Fan Can campaign is, “Show your true colors with Bud Light.” Considering most students on college campuses are not of the legal drinking age it is actually illegal for them to show their school colors with a colored can.
