Nielsen Includes Online Viewing

This is an interesting article that relates to what we’ve been talking about in class with advertising and how it provides most of the funds for television shows. In our class we discussed if ratings could still be considered accurate when so many people are viewing shows in new ways. One of those ways is by watching television on the internet. Nielson is adding  online views to its ratings by placing “internet meters in 7,500 of its television panel homes”. Since the cost of of advertising during a certain TV show is based upon the ratings that this time slot/network receives, it will be interesting to see if this effects the relationship between television and advertising or its costs.
