Ugly Christmas Sweaters, New Party Standard?

leave a comment »

I’m sure most of us have already received Facebook invitations to an Ugly Holiday Sweater Party. The part that I love is that there are websites dedicated to this recently popular phenomenon. Simply typing in “ugly Christmas sweater” on Google instantly shows me where I can buy one for me (or even my dog), how to plan a party, find invitations, party games, contests, and pictures all related to those sweet sweaters we used to dread getting as presents back in the day. I guess this is just another example of how clothes we once thought we hideous have a habit of reentering our lives as chic or trendy or, in this case, a cool thing to wear while drinking at a party.

Besides being an example of  being haunted by one’s not so fashionable past, the surge of ugly sweater party goers contributes to the materialization of Christmas. I’m personally all for the idea of sporting Santa, snowmen, reindeer, and Christmas trees but some may argue that stores have taken advantage of such events and turned them into ways of making money. I just think it’s fun and another way to celebrate.  Either way, see you out this weekend everyone and the uglier the sweater the better!

Here are some of the “best” I found…
