Why Do We Love Sports?

leave a comment »

After talking about sports in class, and seeing this article, I found several comparisons.  The author of this article in the UCONN newspaper basically summarizes why people enjoy and love sports, and after asking that question, this is a perfect answer.  Also, he touches on living through athletes, or vicariously, as we discussed in class.  One quote the author said that moved me was, “Life is about changes, but the presence of sports is constant. We move from elementary school to middle school, middle school to high school, high school to college, college to a 9-to-5, single to married with children, young to middle-aged to old; but when the summer comes, I know – whether I’m 22 and set to graduate from college, or 65 and set to graduate to a retirement home – that I’ll be able to find a baseball game.”  I think this is a very important aspect of sports in peoples lives.  No matter how hard things are, or how things change, sports is there to entertain us and give us joy.  I think that is a major reason why I love sports, along with many others.
