Vampires that really bite

I don’t know how anyone else feels but I’m more than a little confused about how vampires got to be “lovable, misunderstood, emotional” character. The latest new stream of these vampires that have come out of the twilight series. This series had vampires falling in love with humans. This is a far different direction than vampires originally had. In classic movies vampires are feared characters. Vampires were seen as taking whatever they wanted, dying in sunlight and have no “soul.” Now vampires are being shown as really emotional characters that make choices not to kill humans and can even fall in love with human. This is not just an isolated story line in twilight it has been the main and sub story line in other films and shows as well. The series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the spin-off Angel are perfect examples. It’s just curious to see that a feared “monster” has been transformed to a “lovable” but cursed victim. I just wonder if this is another ploy by the movie industry or is this a reflection of society and what we have come to want to see in the myth of the vampire…
