The World Is Flat…

I was recently doing some research for a project on the changing job patterns that we have been experiencing in the past decade and with that thought about the book the world is flat and how it tied into our recent paper on technologies subconscious affects on us.  I thought it was very interesting to find an article written on global outsourcing in 2005 when it was just reaching a peak, and now in 2010 it is something we are used to.  If you think about it, we are no longer surprised to be transfered to another country when we call for help with a Dell computer and other technology based products.

The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century by Thomas L. Friedman says at one point ”’Tom, the playing field is being leveled.” He meant that countries like India were now able to compete equally for global knowledge work as never before — and that America had better get ready for this'”.  This struck me interesting because it is what I focused on in my “short paper” assignment for this class.  The fact that America has always reigned supreme but now that competition has progressed to a global level we are falling behind.
