Touched and Retouched

We talked a little in class about the ads by Dove and their campaign focused on the idea of natural beauty and upholding the things that make you unique and the beauty found in that.  Today, US Magazine published an article in which pop star of the 90’s Britney Spears released the photo’s from a shoot she did prior to them being retouched by editors.

The article points out the obvious removal of the blemishes on her legs and the way the retouching slimmed her hips and legs.  It seems to me that the celebrities are finally beginning to understand the light in which they are seen and using it to their advantage to promote a healthier image for those who are influenced by them.  The article by US Magazine found that “A source close to Spears tells the UK Daily Mirror that she allowed the photos to be released to highlight the enormous pressure women are under to look perfect in Hollywood.”

Spears is not the first celebrity to uphold her body and make moves towards a healthier image for the girls who look up to her.  Tyra Banks is also making huge moves in this direction.
