In class earlier this week, we talked about the newly famous, and very young, popstar Justin Bieber. Justin Bieber seems to be quite a phenomenon in the media right now. He is only 16 years old and within about the past year, he has had multiple hit songs. He began with making youtube videos to get his talent noticed, and though I’m not sure exactly how or when, he was soon noticed by the already successful Usher. Some may say he is now Usher’s “protege”- not only did Usher buy him a car for his 16th birthday, but he has helped launched Justin’s career. The question we might wonder is- Does Justin truly come from “grass roots” or is he a manufactured popstar? It’s hard to say. The way the media portrays an individual is not always accurate. I guess we will have to wait and see if Justin’s fame lasts through puberty. This interview with Chelsea Handler on her show is a funny example of how a great deal of confidence can go a long way for a 16 year old popstar.
