The Anti Hard Body

leave a comment »

Recently in class we have spoken about the classic Reagan hard body figure in films, even some of the hard body figures in films today. However, last weekend I came across a rather contradicting idea of the anti hard body or rather the soft bodied hard body. Upon viewing the new film “Kick Ass” the idea of the anti hard body entered my mind. In the film a group of rather unlikely heroes consisting of a little girl and a  scrawny teenage boy take on the role of the classic hard bodied figure and end up kicking some major ass for sure. This theme of the underdog or little man overcoming the powerful bigger force has become more prevalent recently in the media. In addition to the movie “Kick Ass” the film “Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World” will also feature the feeble young male against a fleet of stronger jocks. Certainly there must be something that can be said about this trend. Perhaps the age of strong simple minded heroes is over, and the triumph of the classic every man is in.
