This article lists 7 seemingly obvious things that you should not do on facebook. A few of them are geared more toward people of an older generation, like our parents. Recently it seems like many older people are using facebook to connect with high school / college friends. The one rule that really struck me was “not posting your child’s name on your picture caption”. I find this rule funny because I see alot of friends parents’ on facebook, with pictures of them on their page. I never realized how you could be potentially exploiting your children and endangering them.

The other rule that really stuck out to me was not letting people know when you will be away from home. I know that i am especially guilty of this with updating my “status” every time I do something or go somewhere , and especially when I’m going away on vacation or will be busy for the day. On one hand , you figure your letting your friends know that you aren’t available for the time being, but on the other hand you never know who is reading that info and basically making a public announcement that you are not home and your house is open for potential intruders.

It is very important to just remember simple rules like the ones listed above if we are going to partake in this social network world.
