horizontal academics

When I opened the email entitled “horizonal academics” sent to me from my mom, I was absolutely not expecting what I received. I opened the attachment to find a 42 page powerpoint presentation titled “An education beyond the classroom: excelling in the realm of horizonal academics” by a Duke student named Karen F. Owens. The slides, which were organized to look like a senior thesis, were actually a collection of guys named off as “subjects” that this Duke student had sex with from freshman to senior year, no details excluded. The boys were named with a picture attached as well as an extended explanation of what the hookup entailed and a rating based on performance. At the end, the 12 subjects were organzed into a list from best to worst, including a bar graph and final acknowledgments. Apparently according to articles I read on the situation, the student made this as a joke with her friends and only sent the powerpoint to a few people. But as everyone knows about how vast the internet is, it later was at one time the most downloaded powerpoint on google. Shocking. This girl was nieve to think this explicit “project” wouldn’t have gotten out for more people to see, and while embarassing for herself and the students mentioned in the powerpoint, it definately was an entertaining read.
