Latino Leaders might form new party.

leave a comment »

There is heated discussion among many Latino leaders who are considering forming their party and breaking away from Democratic ties.  Similar to the Tea Party movement, which has found some success amongst much criticism, Hispanics are calling their grass-roots movement the “Tequila Party”.  This party will aim at the concerns and values of the Hispanic community.  One of the main reasons this call to action is slowly taking place is Latino Democrats have been unhappy with the way immigration laws are being dealt with and feel a change has to take place. Louis DeSipio, a Chicano studies and political science professor at the University of California, Irvine believes that  “There’s a feeling that Democrats aren’t listening”. The party could either become a partner with the Democratic party or become an independent.

I’m interested to see where this will go and what will become of it. The Tea Party has gained much movement despite many  much backlash from the left although they have made a name fort themselves during the midterm elections. Congress has to deal with immigration reform next month  and if the right steps aren’t being taken the Tequila Party might come to life.
