Wiki Leaks. Criminal or Necessary? From what I have read I believe that it is neither. While I find it concerning that classified documents are being leaked into the hands of average joes I dont believe that there is anything wrong with it. The hurdle of the First Amendment is far too strong for the government to shut down the site and the founder Julian Assange is an Australian native hiding outside the U.S making extradition almost impossible. What this means is that there seems to be a dilemma when it comes to action. The government states that WikiLeaks puts our soldiers and government agents at risk yet can do nothing about it because it would be in direct violation of the First Amendment which allows free speech especially about grave political issues. To be honest I find the First Amendment to be an overruling factor but I do worry about the damage WikiLeaks is doing to our government. I hope this issue can be resolved soon.
