Who hasn’t looked at someone’s profile at one point or another and thought “wow, that is a ridiculous picture,”? For many people, their news feed provides a source of friendly updates as well as a chuckle about recent picture changes. Whether the person intends for their picture to be funny, or they are simply unaware of its peculiarity we cannot be sure. However this article has provided us with a condensed guide to avoid the pitfall of the bizarre profile picture.

5 Facebook Profile Pics that Make You Look Like a Tool explains five distinct types of profile pictures that will either get you some laughs or the reputation of a “tool.”

1. The Myspace Shot- for any of you that are unfamiliar with this shot, it usually involves taking a picture of yourself in front of a mirror with the camera or phone present in the picture. For many ladies this also means a duck-faced, bubble-butt pose where you purse your lips and stick your bottom half out to accentuate it. Very popular in middle school, and definitely tool-esque.

2. Using a pet/ animal/ inanimate object as your picture- this is clearly not you, so what is the point of having it represent your profile?  “Hey Tim… so, I’ve known you for about five years now and I’m pretty sure you are not a crude drawing of a dinosaur, a cat with lasers for eyes or a green square.”

3. Holiday or wedding pictures… months after the wedding- Pretty self explanatory. We know you are married and that the wedding was beautiful.  Now you’re just gloating. Time to change the picture to avoid tool-dom
