Facebook Founder Creates a New Social Network

leave a comment »

One of the founders of Facebook, Chris Hughes, who is also the chief digital organizer for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign has created a new social network. This site called Jumo was created with the intent to connect people with non profit and charitable organizations. People can create pages for individual charities or larger issues like gay rights. The site is going to incorporate other social networks like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, essentially linking them to Jumo. The great part about the site is that it can connect anyone with a social mission, anyone wanting to create change with the organization that is right for them. One of the major problems the new site is facing is that it was created in Facebook’s shadow. Facebook already has a Causes application and will people who spend all their time on Facebook or on other sites really want to start looking at another new site? Jumo creators are going to fight the battle and keep the experience on their site tailored to its uses, sending emails and updates to keep them engaged. The site will be beneficial to volunteers and donors alike.
