Today, FIFA selected the hosts for the 2018 and 2022 world cups. The largest sporting event in the world. This past summer the event was held in South Africa where Spain over took the Netherlands 1-0 to take home the trophy. USA was eliminated in the round of 16 to Ghana despite some questionable calls during pool play.  The host of the 2014 world cup has already been determined as Brazil.  To kick off the voting for the 2018 the countries selected were Russia, Portugal/Spain, Belgium Netherlands, and England. England was eliminated after the first round of voting. In the second round Russia won the ballot with 13 votes. This is the first time Russia will be hosting the World Cup.

Then began  voting for the 2022 World Cup host. The countries selected were US, South Korea, Japan, Qatar, and Australia. In the second round Australia was eliminated followed by Japan in the third. Then came the final round with US, Qatar, and South Korea. Qatar won with 14 votes leaving US with only 8. Qatar will become the first country in the middle east to host the grand event.  Many Americans were angry and frustrated including President Obama who felt FIFA made the wrong choice.
