Does race give or take credibility when it comes to rap?
A need breed of rappers seem to be popping up with much more frequency…that’s right, the white rapper. Now everyone knows Eminem is one of the most influential rappers in the game today. But how is it that now whenever a white rapper comes out now people doubt them or say they aren’t legit because they aren’t from the ghetto. Although hiphop does have a culture behind it that has tended to be African-American, writing off these new rappers such a Sammy Adams and Mac Miller simply because of their skin color is silly. It should be about the music not necessarily how much street cred someone has and its hard for people in this day and age to remember that but maybe with the growing popularity of this different breed of rappers it can get back to rhyming with clever lyrics and more than just a hook such as “teach me how to Dougie.” All music should be for anyone whos interested and the stereotypes need to end. Check these guys out. its worth a listen.
