The Royal Wedding

leave a comment »

On April 29, 2011, Prince William and Catherine Middleton will wed at Westminster Abbey. It is hard to go a day without hearing something new about the royal wedding of the Prince and Kate.  When I first heard about all of the coverage of the event I was astonished.  I never realized big of a deal an event like this would be. From the press “following the royal dress,” to coverage on entertainment news channels like E! telling people where to stay in London to be as close to this event as possible, it is nearly impossible to miss hearing some detail about the wedding.  The style of the invitations, who is invited, the date, time, location, flowers, and even the food that will be served is widely known.  Much to my surprise, it is not just entertainment news channels and outlets covering the wedding, but networks like ABC, CBS, and FOX are also on board with wall to wall coverage.

Being exposed to all of this media coverage made me wonder if I have ever/will ever see an event publicized to this extent ever again.  After all, a new Princess of England is a pretty huge deal.  I just wonder how long the hype will linger after this Friday…
