Reaction to bin Laden’s death, and NFL player’s perspective

leave a comment »

When Osama bin Laden died, social media exploded with Facebook statuses, and Twitter with people tweeting about bid Laden’s death. Some comments were comical; others more serious, others worried about what might come next. Many different types of people weighed in with their opinions whether celebrities, athletes, or normal people. During this time one NFL player released some very interesting tweets. Rashard Mendenhall of the Pittsburgh Steelers said, “What kind of person celebrates death? It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side…” and followed it up with We’ll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style.”

The tweets were so controversial that Steelers President Art Rooney had to make a statement about Rashard’s tweets. Mendenhall followed up with more tweets and has remained a hot topic on Pittsburgh radio stations. Mendenall’s tweets stopped around 6 pm on Monday. Obviously these tweets could be extremely controversial depending on how you look at them. Most likely they have a negative effect on people who read them.
